Artist’s Statement
My art is a celebration of nature. The fabrics I use are natural ones: cottons and silks that I have painted and dyed. My painted skies draw their inspiration from the awesome skies of the Nebraska plains; the landscapes I create evolve as I look at my chosen sky and build upon it. Some are scenes that I have come across in my travels, most spring up from my imagination. My creations express my love of the plains and I hope they will bring others to appreciate their beauty also.
About the Artist
For Karen Krull Robart, a years-long interest in quilting and needlework has evolved into a passion for pieced fabric landscapes, hand painted fabrics, and mixed media textile art. Primarily a self-taught artist, Karen holds a Bachelor’s Degree in History and Education from Cornell College, Mount Vernon, Iowa. She is a native of Crete, Nebraska and now lives on an acreage near Shelton, Nebraska. Much of the inspiration for her work comes from the sunsets seen from the front deck of the home she shares with her husband, Bill. They have two adult children and three granddaughters.
